Next-generation physician alerting solution delivers 15% to 40% more alerts with 20% greater accuracy in half the time of legacy solutions

PHILADELPHIA, PA — HealthVerity, the leader in synchronizing transformational technologies and real-world data (RWD) to advance the science, today announced the launch and commercial availability of HealthVerity Precision Event Alerts, the industry’s most comprehensive, accurate and timely physician alerting solution.

As therapies become increasingly complex and personalized, it is critical that physicians prescribe the right treatments to the right patients at the right time. While standard trigger programs can help commercial pharmaceutical teams discover physicians of interest, these legacy approaches are challenged with long lag times and numerous false alerts. By leveraging an expansive yet proprietary combination of lab data, open clearinghouse medical claims and closed medical payer claims, HealthVerity Precision Event Alerts delivers 15% to 40% more alerts with 20% greater accuracy in half the time.

By leveraging the nation’s largest fully interoperable and HIPAA-compliant healthcare data ecosystem, HealthVerity can synchronize the most expansive biomarker and diagnostic lab coverage, including both Quest and Labcorp, with open and closed medical claims to enable commercial pharmaceutical teams to discover 15% to 40% more patients. Legacy alerting solutions are limited to a more narrow dataset that often represents less than 60% of total claim activity. By incorporating a more expansive set of clinical data partners, HealthVerity is better able to qualify patients upon first diagnosis, ensuring 20% higher accuracy rates. Additionally, with limited lag times for open claims and lab data, pharmaceutical companies can receive actionable alerts on a daily basis and often 10 to 16 days faster than legacy solutions.

“Today’s complex clinical treatments require more novel approaches to be able to discover the providers treating patients of interest before a treatment decision is made. Legacy trigger programs have always fallen short with a lack of data coverage, duplicate clinical sources, fragmented lab results and long lag times,” explained Joe Satili, chief commercial officer for HealthVerity. “HealthVerity Precision Event Alerts make it easy to activate the optimal mix of real-world data and engage more quickly with the right providers, delivering the highest volume of alerts with the greatest accuracy.”

HealthVerity recognized in three 2023 Gartner® Hype Cycle™ reports

FEBRUARY 13, 2024

Recognized for Life Science Clinical Development, Life Science Commercial Operations, and Healthcare Data, Analytics and AI

PHILADELPHIA, PA — HealthVerity, the leader in synchronizing transformational technologies and real-world data (RWD) to advance the science, today announced that it was recognized in three of the July 2023 Gartner Hype Cycles titled: Hype Cycle for Life Science Clinical Development, 2023, Hype Cycle for Life Science Commercial Operations, 2023, and Hype Cycle for Healthcare Data, Analytics and AI, 2023. This is the second year in a row that the company has been recognized in all three of these Hype Cycles and the third consecutive year for Life Science Commercial Operations.

HealthVerity was recognized as a vendor providing several different technology solutions in each of the three Hype Cycles:

Life Science Clinical Development

  • Patient data tokenization – According to Gartner, “Patient data tokenization is the process by which clinical trial subjects/patients consent to have their anonymized health information linked to a subject identifier or token. The token can also be linked to existing real-world data (RWD) sources like healthcare claims and laboratory results. This enables life science companies to link patients who have consented to their retrospective RWD, following their activities prospectively for ongoing insights about branded treatments on patient health.” The Gartner report found that this technology is important because, “Patient data tokenization (PDT) enables patient data to be connected between different data sources, enabling life science companies to formulate a holistic, longitudinal view of the patient journey. RWD made available via tokenization can provide significant insight about patient health history, enabling insights about outcomes after a trial, intervention or treatment has been administered by a life science company.”
  • RWD-based trials – “Real-world data (RWD)-based trials use RWD to optimize trial activities with applications that deliver improvements to patient recruitment and retention, protocol optimization, trial feasibility, and safety signal detection. As RWD becomes more available, life science companies and vendors are leveraging it to support effective protocol design, precision methods of finding subjects to successfully complete the trial, and improved data capture that leverages patient health records.”
  • Data monetization in HCLS – “Data monetization is a practice adopted by a healthcare and life science (HCLS) organization by which they make their proprietary data available to sell to external parties. The most mature examples are payers selling deidentified medical claims data to life science companies. This profile tracks monetization of new data types, utilizing new sharing mechanisms and vendors, targeted at new use cases, which are driving a new cycle of data monetization initiatives.”

Life Science Commercial Operations

  • RWD curation and analytics platforms – According to  Gartner, “This technology combines real-world data (RWD), such as electronic health records (EHR), medical and prescription claims, disease and patient registries, lab results, imaging and other sources, to provide a longitudinal view of a patient journey. The platform prepares data for delivery to downstream consumption platforms, applications and analytics. It automates the ingestion and linking of data from permissioned sources, manages identity, compliance and security.”

Healthcare Data, Analytics and AI

  • Data sharing in HCLS – “Data sharing in healthcare and life science (HCLS) reflects a broad range of use cases that knit together ecosystem partners to advance clinical care, research and discovery; improve public health; decrease health disparities; and lower costs. Data sharing in HCLS relies on a foundation of interoperability, privacy protecting policies and standards to enable the industry to safely and collaboratively drive new value streams through better data sharing partnerships.”
  • Data monetization in HCLS – Defined by Gartner as, “a practice adopted by a healthcare and life science (HCLS) organization by which they make their proprietary data available to sell to external parties. The most mature examples are payers selling deidentified medical claims data to life science companies. This profile tracks monetization of new data types, utilizing new sharing mechanisms and vendors, targeted at new use cases, which are driving a new cycle of data monetization initiatives.”

HealthVerity offers patient data tokenization services with HealthVerity Identity Manager, a leading patient matching and identity resolution technology that is 10x more accurate than legacy tokenization technologies. Identity Manager establishes a unique but persistent HealthVerity ID (HVID) to resolve patient identity over time and across data sources to create a fully interoperable single source of truth. HealthVerity FLOW is a middleware solution that can enable RWD-based clinical trials and be used as a RWD curation and analytics platform that leverages this source of truth capability to enable RWD-driven patient journey initiatives. For example, the platform can synchronize clinical trial participants, their permissions, and the broadest set of identifiable and de-identified data sources in a fully governed, HIPAA-compliant manner to accelerate the time to FDA submission. Additionally, HealthVerity offers data owners the ability to join the nation’s largest healthcare and consumer data ecosystem while managing all aspects of identity resolution, privacy protection and governance of data usage rights for the seamless exchange of unlimited real-world data on HealthVerity Marketplace.

“We are excited to be recognized by Gartner in the Hype Cycle reports,” said HealthVerity COO Andrew Goldberg. “We pride ourselves on offering the life sciences and healthcare sectors transformational technologies that synchronize unparalleled identity management with built-in privacy compliance and governance of data usage rights for the seamless exchange of a near limitless combination of healthcare and consumer data. We believe our inclusion in the Gartner Hype Cycle reports demonstrates the difference these solutions can have on advancing the science.”

End-to-end solution manages patient identity, governs permissions and enables on-demand data retrieval

PHILADELPHIA, PA — HealthVerity, the leader in synchronizing transformational technologies and real-world data (RWD) to advance the science, today announced the general availability of HealthVerity FLOW 1.1 for clinical trials, registries and commercial applications. This latest middleware release revolutionizes the way pharmaceutical manufacturers can integrate RWD with primary data from across the enterprise, offering an end-to-end solution that manages patient identity, governs permissions, and enables on-demand retrieval of HIPAA-compliant data to contextualize patient journeys and drive next-best actions.

HealthVerity FLOW 1.1 is the first pharma-class solution to solve the challenge of seamlessly integrating RWD into key applications, such as clinical trials, as a means to significantly improve the quality and depth of real-world evidence generation. No longer do sponsors or commercial organizations need to rely solely on traditional means for data collection, whether pre- or post-drug launch. With its market-leading capabilities, HealthVerity FLOW effectively tokenizes and manages patient identity as the source of truth with an accuracy rate that is 10x higher than legacy solutions. Furthermore, it can efficiently govern permissions for those same patients as a means to unlock and exchange the broadest ecosystem of both de-identified and identifiable patient data, all in a fully HIPAA-compliant manner.

HealthVerity FLOW 1.1 was designed to expertly synchronize RWD across a wide range of key life sciences use cases:

Enhancing clinical trials: Accelerate pathways to regulatory submissions

HealthVerity FLOW is ideally positioned to provide its clients with an enterprise view of key activities in a single phase II, III or IV trial or across the entire portfolio of clinical trials. By providing a dashboard view of enrollment shared with the application, HealthVerity FLOW can effectively store, manage and report on patient participation as a tokenized source of truth, efficiently manage consents and permissions throughout the duration of a trial, and provide an on-demand means to retrieve de-identified and identifiable data, often the same day, all in a HIPAA-compliant manner and with full data provenance.

This novel approach provides unheralded benefits throughout the trial life cycle:

  • During the trial – Augment findings from investigators with regulatory-grade patient data from nationally-recognized sources across medical claims, pharmacy claims, lab data, EHR data and beyond. Whether a patient is actively enrolled or lost to follow up, HealthVerity FLOW offers sponsors a gateway to continue to accurately learn about patient journeys to complement sites and potentially reduce the time to FDA submission.
  • After the trial – Seamlessly conduct long-term follow up and post-trial safety surveillance to meet any post-marketing requirements and better understand the safety and efficacy of a product without risking any violation of patient privacy.
Optimizing registries: Efficiently identify potential trial participants

By eliminating many of the complexities of HIPAA-compliant data retrieval, HealthVerity FLOW enables pharma organizations to bring a new richness to key cohorts in patient registries, expanding the breadth of patients available to participate in research studies and optimizing candidate recruitment efforts. HealthVerity FLOW can be deployed to power a sponsor’s own registry efforts or complement the work of hundreds of disease-specific registries across the country.

Enabling commercial success: Gain speed to market for patients in need

HealthVerity FLOW offers unparalleled advantages for commercial organizations seeking to enhance post-launch success. As middleware, HealthVerity FLOW is uniquely positioned to offer a novel means to convert media investment into patient education and acquisition. For example, this state-of-the-art technology enables drug brand websites to capture required permissions to convert web traffic into actionable knowledge about patient intent and priority, all in a privacy-protected and HIPAA-compliant manner.

“HealthVerity FLOW has the power to reveal insights into the patient journey that were never before possible and to do so without additional complexity or strain on clinical trial sites or other pharma resources,” said Andrew Kress, HealthVerity CEO. “We are proud to offer the life sciences industry a comprehensive solution for integrating real-world data that manages patient identity and permissions, enabling on-demand retrieval of both de-identified and identifiable data while ensuring patient privacy and HIPAA compliance. We are truly providing the pathway that pharma needs to drive next-best actions and accelerate the approval of potentially life-saving treatments.”

Abt to help CDC prepare for the next global health emergency

NOVEMBER 2, 2023

ROCKVILLE, MD — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has awarded an Abt Associates-led team a contract to prepare for the next public health emergency. Abt and its partner, HealthVerity, will provide data that federal, state, territory, and local governments and other organizations can use to target interventions and countermeasures in the event of a public health emergency.

The COVID-19 pandemic made it abundantly clear that the nation’s ability to identify and respond to outbreaks fundamentally relies on access to high-quality and timely data for disease surveillance—especially data about vulnerable populations and response capacity. This five-year, $9.2 million contract will help the nation prepare for an effective response.

Abt and HealthVerity will create and disseminate user-friendly data products that will capture key socio-demographic and health information by sourcing, integrating, analyzing, and packaging disparate datasets. The team of data scientists and epidemiologists will combine large data sets from a variety of industry and government sources with massive computing power, automation, analytics, and artificial intelligence. This approach will provide data to inform plans and responses to public health emergencies in an equitable manner that is focused on local communities. Abt brings over two decades of CDC program expertise to the project, which aims to provide practical insights and recommendations to all Americans.

The data that the team will integrate include medical claims data, social media data, data from service providers (healthcare providers, schools, universities, nursing homes, and correctional facilities), market research, and data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, and other publicly available sources.

“We can’t afford to be unprepared for the next outbreak,” says Gabriella Newes-Adeyi, senior client account lead and advisor to the project. “The work we will do for CDC will give governments at all levels the information they need to safeguard the nation’s health, in particular the health of those most in need.”

HealthVerity launches its Mortality Masterset, powered by Veritas Data Research, to provide the most likely cause of death for health outcomes research

NOVEMBER 7, 2023

PHILADELPHIA, PA — HealthVerity, the leader in synchronizing transformational technologies and real-world data (RWD) to advance the science, today announced the launch of the expertly curated HealthVerity Mortality Masterset, powered by Veritas Data Research.

The solution synchronizes Veritas’ Fact of Death dataset, consisting of over 130 million death records from 1935 to today derived from more than 40,000 public and private sources, with a syndicate of open and closed medical claims assembled by HealthVerity from the nation’s largest de-identified healthcare and consumer data ecosystem. An advanced analytics engine empowered by deterministic and rules-based algorithms processes this synchronized data, retracing each patient’s medical history back 36 months prior from the date of passing, to determine the most likely primary and secondary causes of death. Additionally, each individual is de-identified using a universal HealthVerity ID that allows the Mortality Masterset to be seamlessly synchronized with other data sources for a comprehensive view of the patient journey.

It is important to know not just if a patient died, but whether the cause of death was from the disease being studied to better measure treatment efficacy and overall survival, address any safety issues, and make appropriate public health policy decisions. While cause of death is captured in death certificates that are collected by states and passed onto the CDC, access to these records is restricted, can take up to a year or more to receive, and they are not de-identified or interoperable. Additionally, the cause of death listed on the death certificate is often prone to error, with peer reviewed studies showing error rates ranging from 34% to 52% or even higher. Additionally, cardiac events are over reported on death certificates as a catchall when the true cause of death is unknown.

“Death is a critical endpoint in health research and related disciplines; however, the cause of death is rarely available in public notices and is often inaccurate in official death certificates,” explained Veritas CEO Jason LaBonte. “The Mortality Masterset offering is the first widely-accessible dataset to include cause of death for health research and risk modeling.”

“We saw a need amongst our clients in the life sciences industry to have an accurate cause of death for long-term follow up and health outcome studies, and we’re happy to be able to partner with Veritas to create the Mortality Masterset,” said Andrew Kress, HealthVerity CEO. “By synchronizing this breadth and depth of de-identified data, we are able to provide the most accurate, pre-assembled cause of death determination in a HIPAA-compliant format that allows our clients to start their studies immediately, without having to do additional research on the cause of death.”

The Mortality Masterset is an addition to the growing suite of HealthVerity Mastersets, including the Provider Diversity and Diagnosis Index (PDI) Masterset, Maternal Outcomes Masterset (MOM), Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Masterset, and COVID-19 Masterset, all of which are curated by RWD experts to provide speed to insight for a particular area of study.

WiDS Datathon uses authentic oncology data to teach data science skills and address equity in healthcare for women with breast cancer

PHILADELPHIA, PA — HealthVerity, the leader in synchronizing transformational technologies and real-world data (RWD) to advance the science, is honored to partner with Gilead Sciences to support Women in Data Science (WiDS) for their 7th Annual Datathon Challenge. This year’s challenge, running from September 2023 through June 2024, will address the critical issue of equity in healthcare, specifically for women with metastatic triple negative breast cancer (metastatic TNBC), using RWD.

WiDS, launched at Stanford University in 2015, is an international initiative with a mission of increasing participation of women in all areas of data science. The Datathon is open to the public, giving students and practitioners the opportunity to discover and hone data science skills while solving interesting and critical social impact challenges using well-curated, real-world datasets. The advanced version of the Datathon may also be integrated into college and university courses.

During this year’s challenge, students across the country will use data science and machine learning to predict the time to treatment for women diagnosed with metastatic TNBC, an aggressive cancer that requires urgent and timely treatment. The students will develop models that predict timely treatment based on certain demographic characteristics. The lag time in receiving treatment is a good indicator of disparities in healthcare access. The students are also encouraged to generate additional insights to understand the real-world implications of their predictions.

The Datathon is sponsored by Gilead Sciences who partnered with HealthVerity to secure the curated RWD that the students will be using for the challenge. HealthVerity was able to provide a de-identified dataset of women diagnosed with metastatic TNBC between 2015 and 2018 that included the demographic characteristics needed to understand health equity, including insurance status and geo-demographic data that provides insight into socio-economic factors.

“Gilead worked closely with the Women in Data Science team to select HealthVerity’s dataset for the health equity Datathon due to our ongoing collaboration in using real-world data to ensure diverse representation in clinical trials,” explained Kelly Hoang Ph.D., data scientist and WiDS ambassador at Gilead Sciences. “Making the dataset available is globally part of Gilead’s commitment to diversity and inclusion of stakeholders in our ecosystem, including the data scientists in our industry.”

“HealthVerity is honored to partner with Gilead to use our vast RWD ecosystem and privacy-preserving technologies to support WiDS, help educate our nation’s future data scientists, and increase understanding of the critical issue of health equity and its impact on society,” said Andrew Kress, HealthVerity CEO.

Prior to joining HealthVerity, John worked at 15Five, a human resources technology company recognized for their technology products that help companies deliver on HR business outcomes. Eckhart has developed award-winning products at renowned companies, such as Yodle and Nearpod, that innovated and shaped their respective industries. Prior to that, he led efforts building massive trading and market data systems for JP Morgan. He has built data-intensive SaaS applications that catalyzed double and triple-digit customer growth in organizations spanning healthcare, financial and education sectors.

“I’m very pleased to welcome John Eckhart to HealthVerity as our new CTO,” said Andrew Kress, HealthVerity CEO. “We’re excited to have him join us at a pivotal time as we continue to develop innovative tools, software, and methods to make healthcare data available and usable for research and analytics. The future is going to be about seamlessly synchronizing the right patient-centric data to the right analytic in a highly efficient manner to answer key commercial and evidence questions. The HealthVerity team is looking forward to having John as a copilot as we roll out new tools and data over the next year.”

Eckhart looks forward to combining his expertise in quickly developing products with the dedicated HealthVerity team of data experts to bring increased innovation. “The healthcare data exchange model that HealthVerity pioneered is already moving the market forward,” Eckhart said. “I see great opportunity for us to continue this market progression. Our customers are doing groundbreaking work, developing new drugs, conducting clinical trials and tracking progression of infectious diseases. By equipping them with the right technology and tools, such as HealthVerity FLOW, our clients can have even more impact on people’s lives.”
